I have windows XP and Office in my machine and put same into my daughters
machine, can I also install it in a new third machine all in same house

Read the EULA for your version. In general, you can install any Office
RETAIL on one desktop and one laptop, BOTH of which belong to you and of
those, you are only supposed to use one at a time. Office OEM can ONLY be
installed on one machine. For all other installations, unless you have
Student/Teacher or Home/Student (2007) version, you need one licence per
machine. As I said, read your Office EULA to be sure.
Have you activated Office on both machines?

No. You need one licensed copy of Windows XP for EACH PC. And as for the
Office install you may need one each there UNLESS the EULA allows
otherwise. I suggest you read that FIRST, you will find it in Help,
About in any on the Office applications.
