Transfer photos into Word

I am not real savvy so please give me basic steps to transfer photos from

I can think of three ways. One is to drag the image from Finder/Desktop to
the document window. Another is to use Insert|Picture|From file from the menu
bar. Third is to open the picture in an editing app such as Graphic Converter
select the area required and copy and paste that into Word.
