Transparency issue in Publisher Pro 2003

Michael

Greetings and salutations,
Thanks in advance for the assistance. You guys are great.
I'm trying to create a colored rectangle with a transparency gradient.
Whenever I attempt this, it displays as it should in the editing environment.
However, when I Print or Print Preview, the rectangle appears completely
opaque.
When using a single transparency value for the whole rectangle, there is
no problem. It displays, Prints and Print Previews perfectly.
What's the deal? Is this a bug, or some subtle nuance of object
transparency and color gradients that I'm not grasping?
Thanks again, folks.

Two color gradients have always been troublesome in Publisher. I have found if you
select the transparency, right-click, save as picture and select .tif, .gif or .png
and then insert the result, the transparency is retained.

In addition to Mary's comments, this is a known bug which is to be addressed
in a future version of Office (including Publisher). This is an Office wide
issue with the drawing tools.

Is there any word on when this bug will be patched?

The transparent items I'd have to export to TIFF contain text that will very
likely change later on. It's one extra step ~ and one extra version of this
document ~ I'd like to not have to contend with.

~ thanks, Eddie

Not any time soon.

I'll see if I can code something for Publisher 2003 to automate the export
and subsequent print. Can't make any promises, though.

Actually, I just now thought of a workaround....put the text in a separate
text box with no fill color and place over the transparent box.

That way, I should be able to export the transparent box to TIFF without
locking the text as well, and the text should look exactly the same as before
(right?).

As you can probably tell, this is my first time doing a document in
Publisher <grin>.

~ thx again, e

The way I suggest working it is only to export to TIFF (or PNG) when you go
to print the file, then export the whole file and print the image.

Hello,
I too am trying to crate a one-color (background) gradient with transparency
in Pub2003, then to PDF. Looks OK on screen, but the result is a solid color
box. No text or other items in box.
