Transparency/overlay mess in 2007 compatibility mode

I'm running into a fairly massive bug in 2007's "compatibility" mode. I have
a presentation that works perfectly in 2007. I'm saving it as a 97-2003 ppt.
When I open the ppt file on an older Powerpoint install (OS X), advancing a
slide draws the new slide directly on top of the old slide, but
semi-transparently so you can still see the old slide underneath. Each
subsequent slide advance just makes the display more and more cluttered.

Any ideas what might cause this or how to fix it? I've used compatibility
mode in PPT 2007 many times, but this is the first time I've encountered
problems.

Wow, I've never heard of that. Could be quite cool in certain
circumstances.... Anyway, my first step would be to round trip the file:
HTML "Round-tripping" to repair corruption

If that doesn't work can you confirm that it is just this file, and that it
is broken on all or just one computer?

Actually, I wouldn't mind a look if you don't mind:

It is just the one file. I've never had any previous issues saving out of
Office 2007 into the 97-2003 (with Powerpoint or Word/Excel). I did try
opening the file on two different computers, besides the original, and saw
the problem in both cases. I'll send a copy when I get a chance tomorrow.

Opening the file in open office and re-saving it got me a decent enough
copy, but I'll see if cycling through HTML instead gives me a better replica
of the original.

Does the file have a transparency setting on the slide background color? I
don't know why they allow this setting to be set at all -- it doesn't
actually show up in the file because you can't have a transparent background
(your desktop would show through)...but I wonder if it's showing up when you
save the file as 97-2003 format?
