Transparent objects to postscript trouble

I've had a couple of Pub 2003 documents recently that use transparent
objects created in Pub to make ghosted areas over pictures.

Printing to a PS printer the transparency gets munged. Comes out as
kind of a fine cross-hatch pattern.

Printing to a GDI device it works fine - I found this out as one of the
files I was printing was going to our plotter, which is normally driven
by a PS3 RIP but can also be printed to via GDI in Windows.

Is there any way to get the transparency to print properly to a PS
printer? I don't have the option of going GDI on the current job.

Hi Terje, I know a fair bit about making pdfs, but I don't see how
pdf/x enters into this.

I've not seen this problem from any other program except Publisher.

Well, the spec for PDF/X says that:
a.. Transparency - partial transparency is prohibited. Although transparency
may be used to create content, it must be flattened before converting the
file to PDF/X-1a:2003 or PDF/X-3:2003.

So i suppose this is a feature they have taken care of in Publisher as
default.
At least that was what was explained to me.
But may be i not implemented feature as well.

But of course you can put a transparent area as a part of a picture/graphic,
and then flatten it.
