Transporting Access Database to another computer

I have built an access database at home and now wish to take it to my
workplace but am having difficulty. There is no email at work (strange but
true), and when I copy to disc it always comes out as read only. Can anybody
help please, please.

Everything that you copy to a CD becomes Read-Only because CDs are Read-Only
media. After copying it back to a hard disk just turn the Read-Only flag
back off.

It should come out as read only - as a CD generally is read-only.

Once you get it copied onto your computer at work, just right-click on the
fiel and uncheck the read-only checkbox.

This is answered all the time in here. In the future, try searching the
newsgroups first. You will almost always find an answer to the simple
questions.

Good Luck.

You may want to get a thumb drive for this type of application. It's a
small solid state flash memory devise that plugs into your USB port.
I'm assuming you want to use it in both places. If you are just going
one way (home to work) for this one time then do what Rick said.

Hi.

On your computer at work, copy the database file from the CD to the hard
drive. When finished, open Windows Explorer (right-click the Start button
and select "Explore") and navigate to the directory where you saved the
database file. Right-click on the name of the database file and select
"Properties" on the bottom of the pop-up menu. Uncheck the "Read-only"
Attributes check box and select the "OK" button to save your change.

And when your company upgrades to Windows XP, this will never be a problem
again, because this operating system automatically changes the "Read-only"
attribute when it copies files from the CD.

HTH.

Copy it to your target folders at work and then use Windows Explorer to
reset the Read-Only attribute.
