trial 2007 - really?

D

How is Office 2007 a "trial" if I can't do any critical / useful tasks in
Outlook? I'm extremely disappointed.

Do you have a prior version of Outlook installed? If so, you must uninstall
it first before it will install the trial version of Outlook 2007. But,
make sure you have your original version of Outlook handy to reinstall when
the trial expires.

Thanks Tom. I do tech support for a living and made sure to read through the
instructions very carefully before installing MS Office 2007. During the
installation, I went into advanced options and had it uninstall all previous
Office software. The issue was not a conflict or bug. By design, it appears
that many normal features (such as moving an email into a folder, replying,
etc.) are disabled. That's my whole point - if you can't use the software,
how is it really a trial? It's a demo, and not even totally that. I
appreciate your reply, but believe me that he problem is with the way the
software was designed.

Hi Don,

In Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel check to see what other MS Office family products may still be listed as
installed.

Generally, Office 2007 would only replace software products (including in prior Office versions) that it had a replacement for. If
your trial edition is MS Office 2007 Home & Student then Outlook isn't included, but is in the other trials and once the trial is
activated there usually aren't any features that are disabled.

There is a separate online tryme Office 2007 product that is more of a demo as it doesn't save files.

Was there previously any Office 2007 related beta products on this computer?

Did you restart the PC after installing?

Bob, thanks, but as stated before, the issue was with features that Outlook
said were disabled in the trial version. This is not an issue of needing to
reboot, etc. I installed Office 2007 Professional Trial over 2003
Professional, told it to uninstall all of the corresponding 2003 products,
and proceeded to find that many of the most basic functions were disabled.
If you still think that this is a unique experience to me, just try to Google
the following - "office 2007 trial features disabled." I think you'll find
that it's not me; it's the way Microsoft DESIGNED the trial.

You can't expect to have software that works, you've not contributed towards
Bill's next yaught. :)

No disrespect meant.

What's a "yaught?" Or did you mean "yacht?" Anyway, I think that most of Mr. Gates' money now goes to their charitable foundation. How about you?

I did mean yacht.

And it was a joke, I am aware of all his hard for work charity.

Did you activate the trial? IIRC, even though it's a trial version, you must
still input a product key during installation, and it must still be
activated. If you open Outlook 2007 and go to Help | Activate Product, does
that do the trick?

I have worked on this 2007 trial all day. It has been a total waste of
time. I have have nothing new. Can't get new outlook or anything else. At
this point I really do not care, and lost interest in purchasing if I can't
even get the trial version. Yes it is very disappointing. I think they just
want you to buy, that is why they make it so difficult.

Thanks Tom,
I have student and teacher 2002. I might uninstall 2002 version. Not sure
about outlook, might need the help of my isp. Also not sure if this is worth
all the problems. Maybe it is better to go and buy the program. This could
take more time than I want to spend. Worked on this all day and very tired
of it.

I agree with Don. It is just a way to get persons to purchase 2007, because
the trial version is major confusion.
