Uninstall both and reinstall your purchased version. Always remove any trial software before installing your retail version.

are you talking about the add and remove function? How can I be sure that
documents I have created with the trial version will not also be deleted?

Ok but the last time I tried to uninstall a program it cost me $400 in new
software. Is there any fail-safe procedure I should follow to be sure that I
am not deleting something that will be costly to replace.

As long as you have the CDs, you can install/uninstall as many times as you wish.
