Trouble importing .pst file

I have just formated my hard drive and upgraded to
win2000. I created a .pst file so i could continue where
i left off. When i try to import the .pst file it gives
me the following error:

Properties for this informationservice must be defined
prior to use.

it then gives me anther error straight after saying
that /pathname/backup.pst is not a personal folders file.

I am stuck and i need the information in this .pst file.

Can anyone help?
