trouble opening PUB 98 files in XP

I have recently installed Windows XP, having first backed
up my files on CD. I re-installed Pub 98 but now I have
difficulty importing years of work from the CD's into
Publisher 98. Error messages such as "can't open file"
and "do not have permission to open these files" etc keep
coming up on screen.

Can you advise please.

In addition to Ed's response, be sure that you are logged on to your Windows
XP box as an administrator. This might have an effect on your permissions.
