opening Home Pub 2000 files in 2007

B

BarbraJean

I recently used Windows easy transfer in Vista to import Home Pub 2000 files
from an older computer with XP. New files created in Pub 2007 open and
function fine, but when I open transferred .php files from Pub 2000 it tries
to open them with MSWord and I get gibberish. Getting frustrated. Is there an
easy answer. Thanks

==================================
Microsoft Home Publishing and Microsoft
Publisher are two completely different programs
that are not compatible with each other.

MS Home Publishing .php files are only compatible
with...MS Home Publishing, MS Picture It! and MS
Digital Image.

There's a 60 day trial version of MS Digital Image
you can download from the following site.

Microsoft Digital Image
Starter Edition 2006
http://tinyurl.com/28loxr
(this product line has been
discontinued but you can still
download the Starter Version
and run it for 60 days)

Even though the line has been discontinued...
you can still find copies of:
"Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006 Anniversary
Edition"...online at sites like Amazon and eBay.
The anniversary edition is optimized for Vista.

Thanks John, that explains it. I interpret Digital image as photo software,
not publishing software, and that all my formatting in Home Publishing 2000
into greeting cards, pamphlets and calendars in the last 7 years will be lost
unless I scrap Vista and go back to XP where I can use Home Publishing.
Digital imaging and "picture it" will only manage the photos? What a
dillemma.

Yes...Greeting cards and other paper projects
can be created in Picture It! and Digital Image.

The version you need for Vista is..."Microsoft
Digital Image Suite 2006 Anniversary Edition".

If you open your .php project files in Digital Image
you will find that you can still edit them just like
you could in Home Publishing. Of course the
UI is not exactly the same but the tools and results
will be what you are looking for.

Download the trial and try opening your .php files...
you may be surprised. And...the retail boxed
version includes lots of pre-formatted projects and
clipart that is not included in the trial version.

John, I am having the same issue as BarbraJean. I have many docs created in
Hm Publishing 2000 and would like to be able to open them if only to
recreated them in another publishing prog. but would rather keep using Hm
Publishing 2000 so I don't need to learn another prog. Can I load the old
program from my original discs without having to load all of MS Works and
would you rec. it with Vista? I am not sure if I like Vista yet, I am just
getting used to it and am sure I will run into many difficulties as I go
along.

Thanks for your help.

==================================
Lots of info...hope it's useful...

You may be able to run HP2000 on Vista and
it may have compatibility issues...all I can say
is give it a try.

Here's an article on installing apps that were
included in MS Works Suite.

(245829) Works Suite 2000: How to Install
Individual Programs Included in Works Suite
2000
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=245829
(scroll down and begin at:
"Install Home Publishing 2000")

It would be best if you installed the latest (last)
version of MS Digital Image Suite 2006...it is
fully compatible with Vista and will open all of
your old Home Publishing 2000 files. When
you edit and resave the files they will be in the
PNG-Plus format.

There is a 60 day trial version you can download
if you would like to try it. Even though the software
has been discontinued...you may still find copies
at online sites like Amazon and eBay.

Microsoft Digital Image
Starter Edition 2006
http://tinyurl.com/28loxr
or...
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...ED-A15F-48C5-B724-7796FE8C151E&displaylang=en

Unlike the retail version...the trial does not
have the ability to create VCDs and it does
not include the clipart and pre-formatted
projects.

There were 3 versions:

Look for.....
"Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006"
(there is a Vista compatibility patch
available for this version)

MS Digital Image 2006
*Vista Compatibility* Update
http://tinyurl.com/w5u58
or...
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...e7-8dfd-4a5c-9bef-084cfa691104&DisplayLang=en

or...
"Microsoft Digital Image Suite Plus"
(Includes a copy of Pinnacle Studio Ver: 10)

or...
"Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006
Anniversary Edition" (this version is
optimized for Vista and doesn't require
the patch)

This software line has been discontinued
but it may be possible to find copies at
online sites like eBay and Amazon.
