Trouble printing with tracking changes enabled

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I need to submit printed documents with 'change bars' for each line changed. When I have track changes enabled, The changes show on screen as well as on the printed output. So far, this is fine.

When I attempt to uncheck the 'Highlight changes in printed document' option, it will not stick. I cannot get the output to print with change bars along the side of the document without coloring the changes or showing balloons.

Hi John;

In Word> Preferences> Track Changes set the first three markup options
[Inserted Text, Deleted Text & Changed Formatting] to (none). For the
Comments use the Show button on the Reviewing toolbar to clear the check.
