Trouble Publishing

FrontPage 2003. I am having a dickens of a time publishing my web to my
Comcast web space. But read on, for I do not think it is solely Comcast's
problem.

I have a 17 MB web with lots of files (theme stuff etc.). Even though I
"FTPed" to the Comcast site last night, deleted all the web files, and then
published the whole web fresh from Frontpage, the publish was NOT clean, even
though it said "completed successfully." When I go to my index.htm, it does
not show the text that is supposed to be in the buttons on the shared
borders. What gives here?

Another symptom of this frustrating scenario is that even though the web was
published last night "successfully," when I selected publish today it appears
to be republishing the whole web again! When it is publishing it tells me
that the transfer rate is 0 KB/S even though stuff is going through. It
hangs on a file name even though it has progressed far beyond the file (as
evidenced by FTPing to the site and watching from the other end. Finally,
once the files have been transferred, FrontPage sits forever saying "Updaing
web . . ." I just finished publishing again (only took about ten minutes)
and my site still does not have the text in the buttons. PLEASE HELP!
Thanks.

Even though FrontPage XP was dorky, it worked tons better! Please help.

Don't mix ftping with http Publishing, use one or the other...and probably
bad thing to do it at the same exact time.

FTP will break the FP extensions.

What do you mean by "FTP will break the FrontPage Extensions"? How do I
unbreak them if they are broken?

hmmm....doesn't look like your site even has the frontpage extensions
installed at all.
or if they were they are gone now.

Have your host repair / reinstall them.

Does Comcast support / include extensions ??

You found my site? dpruiett.home.comcast.net
How can you tell that the FrontPage extensions are gone?

Because this link returns an error:
http://www.dpruiett.home.comcast.net/_vti_inf.html

Doc, do yourself a favor and get a genuine hosting account.

There is a multitude of hosts out there where you can register a domain
and host a website for a total of $60.00 a year.

One of many is www.123ehost.com

Yes Comcast does support extensions. I also have a site there called
homefellowship.home.comcast.net (home.comcast.net/~homefellowship). I just
published it and it works fine. However, it does not have a _vti_inf.html
either. However, it does have a folder called _vti_cnf, as does the
dpruiett.home.comcast.net site.

Possible reasons for the hang when processing web updates are:
the server is badly configured,
or just too busy to process everything promptly. At 17MB, your web
may be too big for Comcast's FP extensions. Try breaking the web down
into subwebs (if Comcast supports subwebs) - the individual smaller
subwebs may publish smoothly where the single large web fails.
