Trouble receiving mail

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC
Email Client: pop

After clicking Send/Receive, I'll receive 2-3 mails, then get stuck. Entourage itself doesn't hang because I can still quit, read received mail, etc. It's like the mail reception process hangs. In Entourage 2004, I turned off the Junk Mail filter and that solved the problem. Not working this time. Suggestions appreciated.

It sounds like a bad message that is trying to download. If you turn on
Online Access in Accounts, you can view mail left on server. Do you see an
older message (probably spam) that could be the culprit. Delete it. You
might have to use your web browser to get rid of the email.

In the Progress window, it should display the message that is not
downloading.
