trouble with microsoft office 2003 error 1402

for some reason every time I try to load Microsoft office, (excel or word) I
get....
error 1402. Setup cannot open the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common.

I have tried everything including reloading microsoft office and it will not
ever re install. if I keep checking ok, I can get in and do my work, but not
all features work.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
