trouble with router and sending email. need to change from PPOE to LAN

I have a new Linksys router and support tells me to
change my email program from a PPPoe to a LAN so that the
router will let me sent emails. I can receive them with
the router. In the setup of my email accounts I already
have the box, "LAN" checked.
