trouble with typing speed b/c my keyboard won't read keystrokes

I am having trouble with typing speed because my keyboard is taking forever
to read keystrokes. right before it happened, a dialogue box came up and I
accidentally said yes, but didn't read the whole thing. all I saw was
something about keys and symbols, and I think it said something about using
certain keys to represent certain symbols. i thought it was telling me about
something i could do, but now i don't know how to change it back.

You probably turned on one of the "accessibility" aids, probably
FilterKeys. Go to the Windows Control Panel and double-click
Accessibility Options. On the Keyboard tab, uncheck whatever boxes are
checked. Then click the Settings button next to that option and
uncheck the box for Use Shortcut, so you won't get that dialog again.
