troubleshoot hide when minimized

Outlook will not close. A while back, I selected Hide When Minimized and have
tried over and over to reverse this action. I have unselected the option, yet
the function still operates. I still get new mail notifications and reminders
even though Outlook is supposedly closed. Outlook.exe appears the Processes
tab but not the Applications tab in Task Manager. I can't close MSN Messenger
either.
