The end-result document is a biography. It is being printed on pre-planned
bond with a graphic box/area on the left for the statistical info (email,
phone, law school, languages spoken etc). These documents existing
currently as PageMaker files - layed out by the marketing department.
marketing now wants the Word processing department to manage and make edits
to these files and decided that converting them all to word would be easy
and make the desired tasks easier. That's when I got tapped to make this
template.
The areas of text MUST line up perfectly as they did in PageMaker. But they
are not continuous sections and they are not continuous columns. The
character schemes for the left block(STATS) are quite different in size,
spacing, color etc than the main body area on the right portion (BODY).
There is a third portion at the top of course and those styles are separate
as well. And there may or may not be an image in the top portion of each
person - depends on printability and what not. I have not yet tackled THAT
place holder issue.
People that are a step above me have the fear the WP ladies who will be
using the templates to move text from PageMaker into word might nudge, bump
or otherwise move the current text box I am using for the STATS. I have a
left margin of 3.13 and the text box lays over that. The text in there is
right aligned, with an absolute position of - horizontal -2.64 to the right
of column (although I'm not using any columns and vertical 2.63 below page
and an internal margin of right .3 . That's why I wanted to lock it down.
The ladies in question are professionals and they know how to manage objects
and they know how to use Undo! But I was asked to make it 100% fool-proof.
Not sure if its possible. tried putting a table on the left and reinforce
with fields - but I couldn't get the text wrap on the right to match up
perfectly. By match up I mean the first line of STATS = the atty's direct
dial phone number, the first line on the right is the Intro of the BODY.
They have different fonts and spacing in the styles, so its a trick to make
it happen.
Then if there is a second page, the top margin is set to 2" and the left
margin is at 1.3" exactly. We use a section break(continuous) to achieve
that.
I'm beginning to think we need to spend the money to hire a PageMaker editor
and keep them where they are at!
