Is Groove an actively developed product? It almost looks like it is dying or
being replaced by new technologies. Just wondering if it is worth my time to
try it out.
My misgivings about Groove 2007:
- Meetings don't show up on calendars automatically. Seems a simple
request- it should intuitively do that.
- Calendars don't synch with Outlook. This is a Microsoft Office product
right? Shouldn't they interact?
- No clear way to coordinate to-do's or tasks by person. I found a Help
file reference to the Groove Dashboard Tool, but it looks like support
dropped before Groove 2007. You can only get the tool with the Task &
Meeting Management template, which is no longer shipping. That looks like a
killer tool that would be very useful in project management. As it stands,
each "tool" in the workspace doesn't seem to relate to each other. I would
like to be able to do task reports and filter by person.
- There are no good books on Groove out there, except very simple "Step by
Step" type books. I would want to find out more about programming Groove.
- There seems to be a lack of developers out there, which also scares me. I
found the GrooveIT site, and those look like very useful tools for Groove. I
am surprised at the lack of development.
Let me now your thoughts. I like the simplicity of Groove and the ability
to use it for small firm collaboration and project management. I don't
really have the resources to buy/learn/program Sharepoint or MOSS, though.
