Trying to add music to a slide show

I have Microsoft Powerpoint 2002 and I have tried adding music to my slides
but cannot do so. I go to insert Movies and Sound Files, but I go to open it
up and it only takes sound files and says that it does not hold this type of
file. On my home computer I have Powerpoint 2003 and it does it just fine. Is
there anyway to do this or is it hopeless?

This should work just fine . What is the format of the music file? There is
little if any difference between 2003 and 2003 in this respect.

inserted with PowerPoint 2000 but may be played back with PowerPoint 97 or
the 32-bit PowerPoint Viewer.)
Musical Instrument Digital Interface (*.midi, *.mid, *.rmi)
Unix Environment (*.au, *.snd)
Microsoft Wave (*.wav)
Microsoft Streaming Format (*.asf, *.asx)
