Trying to demote list using the tab key

I generated a custom list outline. I would like to be able to promote
or demote a list heading using the tab key. I thought this was
possible, however whenever I hit tab, the cursor tabs over and the
list does not demote.

I realize this can also be achieved by using alt+shift+right arrow,
but I would really like to use tab if possible.
