Trying to install an IME (input method editor) for Chinese

Jim

I am really frustrated. I have re-installed Office several times (not
recently). My daughter attended Indiana University and purchased Office XP
and installed it on our home computer. Now I am trying to enable Chinese in
Word. Microsoft's insructions tell me to run the Office Tool. Every time I
do, it says, "This action is only valid for products that are currently
installed." And it had the nerve to tell me this RIGHT AFTER I RAN OFFICE'S
DETECT AND REPAIR. I'm so frustrated. Can anyone help?

Hi Jim,

There are probably a couple of different issues going on.

First, after restarting the PC, be sure that you're in an Admin account when trying to install and update Office. The message
you're seeing can come up in a user account (i.e. it won't 'see' all of the installation of Office in an account with higher
privileges).

Second in Windows control panel, regional settings, be sure that the Asian language tools for Windows are installed and then that
the required language input is available through the 'text details' part of the Regional language dialog and that the language bar
is set to be avaialble, and then turn on the language you need in
Start=>Programs=>Microsoft Office=>Microsoft Office Tools

Also check to see that Office XP has all updates installed as there were some fixes to the Office XP IME support.
