Works 7 was released in 2004. Office 2000 was released in 2000!. Now think about it. How can a product released in 2000 know about products likely to be released in 4 years time? Even Michael Stevens (MS - MVP) with his connection with the underworld wouldn't have known about this.
I suggest pick up the phone and ask Microsoft if they can be of any help. It looks like you might have to get a pirated copy of Office 97 to get this fixed or even Works 6. You might have to search on Amazon.com for second hand copies which you don't have to install but at least the CD is available when prompted to insert in the drive. You can then remove it (i.e. the CD for QP) and start/continue with the installation.
