Trying to open Publisher document and having trouble

I am trying to open a Publisher document from a data cd and I keep getting an
error message saying "Publisher cannot open files from a different version."
My Publisher is up to date version 2000 SR-1. The version of the document I
am trying to open is 2000 version 6. What can I do to be able to open this
document?

Are you running Norton antivirus? Try disabling "script blocking" if you
have Norton and
Office Plug-ins in Norton options and try again.

Might help to copy it to your hard drive then try to open the file. It will be "read
only." To change this, right-click the file, properties.

Are you saying that the document is a Publisher 2000 version 6 because that
is what is displayed when you Right-click > Properties?

Properties looks at the file extension (.pub, as it is for all versions of
Publisher), and compares it against the list of installed file types on the
system. If you have a program installed to handle that file type, it tells
you the name of that program.

So if I had Notepad registered to open .pub files, Properties would say that
it was a Notepad file.

Properties does not tell you the file version. It is most likely that this
file comes from Publisher 2002 or 2003. If the file is a reasonable size
(after zipping), e-mail it to my reply-to address and I will convert it for
you.
