Trying to update website

E

Eileen

We have a company website - www.enviro-mgmt.com - that we need to update. We
have our website file setup on Microsoft Publisher and I'm trying to publish
changes to the company website. I save the .pub file, choose File, Publish
to Web, My Network Places, our ftp folder (ftp.purehost.com) and save the
file (as index.htm). It says it's going to replace the existing file (I say
ok).

The message says, "Working - Publishing HTML file..." and then "Saving as
ftp://ftp.purehost.com/index.htm".

When I check the website, it is not updated.

I got it to update yesterday morning but have not been able to get it to
work since. I have checked the user # & password under Add/Modify FTP
Locations and its correct.

So it looks like everything is running smoothly on Publisher (no error
messages) but the website company has not found anything on their end, so I'm
not sure what's going wrong.
Any ideas?

Try doing a screen refresh. Your computer may be saving the old display in
memory.

A couple observations that might lead to a solution...

Mouseover the links on your site. Your site is using .html extensions, not
..htm. You might make sure that you are saving the index file correctly as
index.html vs. index.htm.

I would think that your ftp address would be:
ftp://ftp.enviro-mgmt.com/index.html
not:
ftp://ftp.purehost.com/index.html
(keeping in mind that you need to use the correct file extension)

Are you using IE7 or IE6, Vista or XP?

Reference: How to trouble-shoot Publisher web upload issues :

Reference: Prepare, publish, and maintain your Publisher Web site:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/publisher/HA100947601033.aspx
It is written for Pub 2007, but if you are using IE7 instead of IE6, then
the directions for using Vista also would apply to Pub 2003. FTP and HTTP
uploading has changed with the introduction of IE7 and Vista.

If you choose to use FTP uploading then consider downloading and installing
the free FTP client FileZilla:
http://filezilla-project.org/ It is likely to be easier for you. Or use a
different FTP client if your host provides one.

Rob,

Actually I did before replying. It appears that purehost is the OP's
webhost, which is why I questioned the FTP address. But the OP also said
that they had been successful uploading to that address. Is this the reason
you wanted me to take a gander, or am I missing your point?

HA!...it's fixed now...when I went to Purehost.com it was the OP's
site!...like the OP had somehow managed to publish to purehost's index page!
I'm sure they loved that...

Eileen

David,

Thanks for the great advice! I changed the ftp address to enviro-mgmt.com
and saved the file as an .html and it updated!

Thanks again.
