Tryint to open word results in program attempting to install something.

Lately, when we go to open word, a box comes up titled "Microsoft Word 2002". Briefly the text states "preparing to install", then it brief goes through some kind of process, then comes up saying that it needs a word 2002 disc. We cancel all this out, and then word opens as if nothing was wrong. This is a nuisance, and I don't know how to get it to stop. It's especially a problem when I have to fax a word document; I must first open word, or the fax program cannot convert the document to be faxed. How do we correct this problem?

I am having the same problem. However, the message I get after I cancell is: "Microsoft Word: Program not installed for the current user. Try running installation program." Then the program shuts down. I can't reinstall the program from my disk. The installation wizard doesn't recognize the file on the disk

This happens with all my Microsoft Office XP programs.

Hi "Cynthia". I don't think you're having the same problem as "Harry
T". See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;298022
"Error Message: Microsoft <Program Name> Has Not Been Installed for the
Current User". When you say "the installation wizard doesn't recognize
the file on the disk", do you mean that the installer starts but then
stops for some reason, or that nothing happens when you put the Office
XP CD into the CD drive? If it's the latter, you can manually start the
installer by clicking on Start | Run | Open: d:\setup.exe (substitute
the drive letter of your CD drive for d:).
