TURN OFF AUTOMATIC HYPERLINK FOR WEBSITES & ADDRESSES

I like to keep lists that include columns of web addresses or email addresses. Excel automatically formats them as hyperlinks and I can find no way to turn this off. In MSWord you CAN turn off autoformating of a hyperlink. How can I turn off automatic hyperlinking? (Thanks)

Sure Jeff -

Excel> Preferences> AutoCorrect just like Word - clear the first checkbox.

Thanks, but I'm using Office 2004 and don't see any option to not autocheck hyperlinks. Do you mean to turn autocheck off completely?

Well, that's why it's always a good idea to mention what version you're
using - the feature isn't included in 2004.

In 2004 type an apostrophe before typing the address for any new entries.
That's one of the options offered here:

For existing addresses you can also select & Cut the list, paste back into
the desired location (same cells is fine) then Edit> Paste Special to the
same cells, select Text from the list of options. You'll still have the blue
font color & underlining but you can simply reformat as you wish.
