Turn off built in smart formatting

I am preparing a spreadsheet where certain lines are highlighted. If a
few highlighted lines are together it starts to apply that fill color
on the new lines when I start to enter data into them. How do I turn
this feature off?

Tools>Options>Edit.

Uncheck "extend data range formats and formulas"
