turn off outlook retrieving email after I close the program

I would like to turn off the feature that brings in email even after I close
the outlook program. The only way I can do it is to restart my computer.
This is a problem as i sometimes want to check email using ipod or cell phone
or even at work when my computer has not been shut down. Thanks

Outlook doesn't HAVE a "feature" that retrieves email after the program is
closed. Are you SURE that you are really closing it and not just hiding the
Outlook icon in the systray?
(Do Ctl-Alt-Del, look at Task Manager and check that there are no Outlook
processes still running under the Processes tab after you close it...)

processes still running under the Processes tab after you close it...)

I prefer Ctrl-Shift-Esc to bring up Task Manager directly.
