Hello GLMoore,
Page numbering is actually turned off by default. To turn page numbering on
you need to click View | Header and Footer and then insert the Page numbers
using the tool bar. This leaves a Page number field in the header or footer
of the document that can be selected and deleted id needed. If you see page
numbers when creating new documents then the Page number option was added
and saved to the Normal.dot template. To change this you can delete or
rename the file Normal.dot and then restart Word and a new one will be
created; or you can edit the Normal.dot template and remove the page
numbers. Then you would simply save the document as Normal.dot.
