This article describes how the General number format displays numbers. It
says in effect that if you do not want exponential notation after 11
significant digits you have to use a different number format than General.

This relates to the first question.
Our companies website uses an online payment system provided by a local
university. When we download the payment file, it downloads in the CSV
format, when this is opened in excel, excel turns all the 12digit invoice
numbers into scientific notation, when this file is saved again (as a CSV),
it saves the scientific notation, and we loose 9 digits of the invoice
number. In the CSV you will see the data as 1.23E+11.
I AM NOT TELLING MY USERS TO HIGHLIGHT THE DATA AND CHANGE IT TO NUMBER
EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Has anyone responded to how to turn this auto number format off? I have a similar problem with SKU numbers that are shoe sizes. Some of the sizes contain an "E" and this automatically causes Excel to format in the scientific notation format. Changing the format back to General or Number or Text does not bring the number back to it's original format, several digits are dropped. The only way around it is to format the cells as text and re-type the SKU's as they should be.
I NEVER use or can forsee a use for Scientific Notation Format in anything of my spreadsheets. Is there a way to disable this function?

I don't know of any way to turn this off. I would suggest formatting
the entire column of SKU numbers as Text before making any entries.
