Turning Autoscale Off Doesn't Work -- Classic "No New Fonts" Error

R

Rothman

I have a large excel file (by my standards). It has 522 charts in it (it's
a long story). I started getting the "No New Fonts" error. According to
support, turning off autoscale would fix this problem and allow me to create
new charts.

However, turning autoscale off doesn't allow me to create new charts. As
you know already, I'm nowhere near an expert, but here's my logic: Although
I turn autoscale off, there's still umpteen million fonts in my file and
Excel still doesn't like it. Therefore, I want to change all the fonts to a
single size. However, when I try to do that for individual charts, Excel
says "No new fonts allowed," even though I'm trying to lessen that number.

Therefore, is there a macro that could allow me to change all the fonts to a
single size in my charts that I could insert simultaneously and hopefully
dodge that error?

Hi Rothman,

If you have Excel 2000 or later, I'd recommend saving the file as a web page
and opening that again. Then save as normal Excel workbook. Might just get it
into a state that allows the other steps you mentioned.

We're halfway there.

Saving as a webpage allows me to create new charts, but I can't adjust the
fonts of the old charts. Then, when I save it as an Excel file, the problem
resurrects itself.

So, does anyone have a macro that would allow me to force all charts to be
one font and size (since I can't change them manually due to the error, and
even without the error, it would be time consuming)? Again, I'm assuming
that Excel would just detect a single font and size and therefore the error
would go away and never come back.

Thank you very much for the help, though! It's amazing to me that there are
so many people on here willing to lend a hand to us that are much less gifted.

Hi Rothman,
Saving as a webpage allows me to create new charts, but I can't adjust the
fonts of the old charts. Then, when I save it as an Excel file, the problem
resurrects itself.

I would parse the html file looking for charts. Search for :

<x:AutoScale/>

and remove all entries you can find. The save and close the html file and open
in Excel.

Um...I loaded up my file and started to do what you suggested, but...

....I was able to change the font sizes and types manually without doing it
and without being stopped by the error.

I can't figure this one out. The word "unstable" comes to mind.

If the error pops up again, I'll be back.

Again, thanks for the assistance.
