Turning off date

I use fractions a lot at my work and Excel is always formatting the
into dates.

Example

13/32 --- 13/32
16-Jul --- 7/16
15/32 --- 15/32
2-Jan --- 1/2

I never want Excel to format fractions into dates...If I want Excel t
display July 16th then I will simply type that in. Is there a way o
turning this option off

Format the cell as a fraction before entering your data.

Format>Cells>Custom, in the type box: # ?/? or a similar format for
fractions.
Look in HELP for details on formatting as fractions.

Not quite what I am looking for.

One thing, I dont type the fractions in, these are Excel sheets that
get sent and have to edit.

Two, not all the cells contain fractions.

Ill give you the particular example I am working on... Drill Bits i
case your wondering

15/32
1/2
17/32
3.00 MM
3.10 MM
3.20 MM
#30
3.30 MM
3.40 MM
#29
3.50 M

Since I assume that you're not going to use the bit sizes in calculations,
you have two options to enter them as *text*.

On a cell by cell basis, just enter an apostrophe (') as your first
keystroke.

On a larger scale, you can *pre-format* a column, or an entire range as
"Text".

Select the cells concerned, then:

<Format> <Cells> <Number> tab,
Click on "Text", then <OK>.
