turning off gradient menu border and toolbar gradient

my eyes hurt from the candy cartoon gradientin toolbar
and left menu margin/border

why cant this UI be simpler? it's intense, ugly, hard to
look at

how to turn this off without reverting XP to "Windows
Classic" mode

it only appears in office
