Turning off Template Help

Every time I start Word 2003 with an existing document, I get an
auto-connection to office on-line and a "Template Help" pane (I should say
PAIN).

I've tried shutting the pane, turning off the option for "Startup Task Pane"
in Tools->Options. Resaving the documents that way, and more...what is the
deal?
