Turning Off tracking formatting changes using track changes

I have unchecked "Keep track of formatting" in the Edit Menu. I have
unchecked "Make hidden markup visible when opening or saving". Still, when
TRACK CHANGES is on, every formatting change is shown. I not only do not
want to see formatting changes, I don't want them tracked. Is there any way
of turning this off????

Make a copy of the problem document. Open the copy, choose to show only
formatting changes, and choose to accept all changes shown (do not
accept all changes in document). Does that fix the problem? If yes,
then do the same thing to the original file.

Thanks for the suggestion. That took care of some of the formatting changes,
but for some reason not all.

According to the HELP, unchecking the boxes I indicated should eliminate
both tracking of the format changes and the display of the changes, but
neither works as documented. Also if I go to TOOLS, OPTIONS, TRACK CHANGES,
the formatting box shows "none" which should mean that no formatting is
displayed. Nothing seems to work as it should. Surely there has to be a way
to turn off the tracking and displaying of format changes once and for all.

Thanks, Tom

I've had "keep track of formatting" turned off for as long as I can
remember, so I don't really know how it works. But in the case of other
tracked changes, what happens is that turning off tracking of changes is
not retroactive, so any changes that are tracked before you turn it off
are retained in the document until those changes are accepted or
rejected. What formatting changes are retained after you accept the
changes shown?

I don't believe that "Keep track of formatting" has any effect on Track
Changes at all. It applies only to whether or not Normal + Bold, say, is
listed in the Style list as a pseudo-style. I also have this option
disabled, but when I use Track Changes, formatting changes are absolutely
tracked along with everything else.

As Suzanne has suggested, I believe you are confusing 'Keep Track of
Formatting' and 'Track Changes'. These are two totally different features
that don't interact.

If Track Changes has been used, you must have Track Changed ON, Accept or
Reject ALL changes and then toggle it off.

On the Reviewing Toolbar, click the arrow next to Show, and clear the check
mark next to formatting. I hope this help.
