Turning off Windows Messenger

Hello,

I have recently upgrated to Norton's 2005 Internet Security and somehow it
brought Windows Messenger alive again when I thought I had gotten rid of it.
I know it has to be installed on my Windows XP computer, but it constantly
interfers with MSN Messenger. I have no use for Windows Messenger. Can
someone explain how I can get rid of it so at least I don't have to deal with
it anymore?

Thanks

My understanding is that Windows system uses this to send messages to
different components on your system. In other words, It is not something
that is suppose to be turned off.
