turning on spell check

I have a very long document with technical and/or non-English words, which always trigger the red wavy line. Finally, Word said there were too many misspelled words and turned off spell check. I went back and performed a spell check for the entire document and either added the "misspelled" words to my dictionary or clicked "Ignore All", but spell check still does not recognize any misspelled words. I want to use the spell check as I go. How can I get the spell check turned back on for that document. (It works for all other documents.) Thanks.

Hi Amy -

Go to Word> Preferences - Spelling & Grammar, make sure there is a check in
the box for "Check spelling as you type" (and "Check Grammar as you type" if
you wish), then click the Recheck Document button.

Dear Bob,
Thanks for responding. I followed your directions (the "Check spelling as you type" box was checked). Afterwards, I purposely misspelled a word and I still did not get the red wavy line. What should I do next?

Then it's most likely a Language issue with that particular document. This
isn't uncommon - especially if documents get "passed around" from one user
to another and/or content gets pasted in from a variety of sources.

Have a look at the links on the following page keeping in mind that content
in a Word document is "tagged" for language similar to a formatting
attribute - such as bold or italic. It just isn't visible to anyone but the
dictionary. If the dictionary being used is for one language but the content
is "tagged" as some other language the dictionary won't even look at it no
matter how incorrectly spelled it may be.

This link will provide further explanation as well as solutions;

Dear Bob,
I applied all the suggestions regarding the language settings given in the link you sent me and I still don't have the red wavy line when I purposely type in a misspelled word. After reading all the help on the link, I don't think it is a language issue. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Then another thing to check would be:

Word> Preferences - Spelling & Grammar, make sure that you do have a check
in the first box and that you *don't* have a check in the second [Hide
spelling errors in this document].
