Tweak not working after installation

I know Tweak UI is not supported but I have one question for the world. I
have installed Tweak UI and number of times (removing it each time before
downloading). It is being installed in c:\windows\system32. I have Windows
XP, SP2 with the lastest updates. How do I get it to kick in and do its
job?!?

It's not related to the Office applications, so your posting would be
more likely to be answered in the WindowsXP group. Are you getting the
correct version? And are you looking in Control Panel?

Do you have a program icon in start, it will say "PowerToys for Windows XP."

TweakUI is always installed in the system32 folder.

I got the download for XP, SP 1 and above off the Microsoft download. Does
not show up in the Control Panel. (Though not an Office problem, thanks for
your help since I want Tweak so I can see the last opened documents in Word
and Excel.)

I know but it does not allow an entry for the number of recent files. I was
told I needed Tweak UI. This seems strange since I recently was able to use
this feature in Word and Excel. I have hunted all over XP to see what was
altered or turned off, etc.

I have TweakUI, it isn't in my control panel. I remember Windows 98 had a
control panel icon.

You need to update Windows to Service Pack 2.

See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=284896 "'Most recently
used' list missing from File menu and 'Recently used file list'
option unavailable in Office XP and 2003". Ignoramusses using
TweakUI incorrectly is usually how the recently used list gets
disabled unintentionally. If that's not how your recently used
list got disabled, then you don't absolutely need TweakUI to turn
it back on (but that is one way to do it); you can manually
modify the registry key mentioned in KB284896 to give
NoRecentDocsHistory a value of zero.

Humm, malware or registry cleaner involved. Or perhaps some
privacy/personal secuity software put on the PC and is active?

Bingo - I think you are right. Not a drop dead situation so I'll continue as
is. Thanks for help.

I have the latest and the greatest for XP to include SP2. Not a drop dead
situation so I'll continue as is. Thanks for help.

Thanks for you help. Not a drop dead situation. Just thought I could
resolve. I'll look at the registry (carefully). It was just nice to have
but I can work without. Thanks for help.
