Two logins?

I have a few links to PPT files on a site. Now in Firefox, I go to the site,
login once as normal (since it's password protected), and everything is fine
after than. But with IE7, I login to the site as normal, and then when I
click on a PPT link, I get the login popup a second time (though even if I
hit cancel on the popup, it still opens the PPT as normal). So what I'm
trying to determine is, if this is some type of issue in PPT (as this only
seems to happen with PPT files..Word and PDF open fine), or if it's something
to do with IE7 (some permissions problem?), or maybe the server that the site
lives on (though I've been "assured" it's not that). Any help or insights
would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

When you log in, the site places a cookie on your machine that is read by
the browser. FireFox cookies do not work with IE and IE cookies do not work
with FireFox.
