Two versions of Office Enterprise 2007 on MVL page -- difference?

A

Alex

Hi everyone,

Our company uses the Microsoft Volume License, and we have a portal via
Microsoft.com to download our MS software. Today when checking out MS
Office 2007, there are two options for Microsoft Enterprise:

Office Enterprise 2007 Win32 English Disk Kit MVL DVD English
2006-11-30
Office Enterprise 2007 Win32 English Disk Kit MVL UG Only DVD English
2006-11-30

The first one is around 500 Megs and the latter (UG Only) is almost 2
Gigs. I'd assume the UG Only means Upgrade Only, but if so why would
the Upgrade be 2 Gigs with the full version only 500 Megs?

Can someone shed some light on this for us? I'll probably download
both just to be sure, but just checking.

Thanks ..

Alex

Sorry I don't have the answer to your question. Hopefully someone reading
here will, but I just have to ask -- is there not a contact link or anything
for assistance on the download page?

I guess I just figured (read hoped) MS would have provided some kind of
help/question-answering mechanism for its volume license customers. I doubt
that many people reading this group have access to the volume license
Enterprise downloads....

Hi Echo,

I hoped it'd be quicker to post on here then to jump through hoops, but
seeing many posts similar to this on other forums and the Newsgroups I
decided to go ahead and call Microsoft. They did have a support number
buried on the Enterprise site.

The guy I talked to had no idea what the difference was, and he's
escalating it to the next level of support and will get back with me.
Once I get a response back I'll post it here.

Take care,

Alex

Thanks, Alex. Hopefully your information will help others in future. Sure
wish we could save you the hassle now, though.

Hi Echo,

I got an email from the MS guy last week saying they were working on
it, and it had a case number. But thus far no reply. I downloaded the
smaller of the two (599 Megs as opposed to 2.5 Gigs) and it's working
great.

Go figure --

Man, that sucks. I'm sorry you haven't received a better response, but thank
you for posting back with your own results.

Hi Echo.

Well I did get a reply back from Microsoft today about this, and here
it is:
---
In this case, UG, in the product description does not stand for
upgrade. The UG SKU contains all of the office products in one build.
This is the reason why the UG SKU is so much larger than the standard
SKU.
---

So UG doesn't mean Upgrade as I thought. I wish they'd give some
details on the download page. Also I wonder what's included that makes
the size of the Office 2007 Enterprise download go from 500 megs to 2.5
Gigs, unless they add all the clipart, templates, or possibly the
entire MSDN library. At any rate the 500Meg version worked and add
everything I expected.

Take care,

Alex

Thanks for letting us know what you found out, Alex.

Here's some information I received.

Office Enterprise 2007 Win32 English Disk Kit MVL UG Only DVD English is the
Office 2007 Select product. This includes everything that Office Enterprise
includes plus
Project Professional
Project Standard
SharePoint Designer
Visio Professional
Visio Standard
Ability to install each of the applications included in Office Enterprise as
a standalone product
Ability to install the Office 2007 suites - Enterprise, Professional Plus,
and Standard

So I guess that's why it's so big. They're supposed to be making this more
clear on the website, but I don't know how long that will take.

Whoa... Alot of great apps! I need to verify we can use all that under
our Enterprise licensing agreement, and if so I'll be downloading that
version as well.

Thanks for posting this as it does explain why it's so large.

Take care,

Alex
