txt file field DDMMYYYY fails to import into Access'07, but OK in

B

Benjy

I've been importing txt files into Access 97 and 2003 using an import
specification for years with no problem. But with 2007 I am now getting
import errors which I can't resolve.

There is no problem in importing "25122007" (without the inverted commas)
into a date/time field in a table in Access 97 or 2003, as long as that in
the import specification the date delimiter is set to "" (ie nothing). It
will not work if it set to "/" or ":" etc.

But no matter what I do or try I cannot sucessfully import it into Access
2007. It only works if the txt data has a separator, and that the same
separator is set in the import specification.

I have done a workaround, importing it as text, then using a
CDate(Format(CLng([date]),"00/00/0000")) type expression, but this is a
really backward step. Databases which have been cobverted up to '07 no longer
work, and there is a lot of redsign to be done unless somone can tell me what
I'm doing wrong.

Surely Access 2007 can recognise 25122007 as a date?

There are some other posts which seem to have the same problem (hello Bruce
Martin), but no solutions, and no-one from Microsoft to confirm that this a
known problem with no solution.

All ideas gratefully received.

Benjy
