typing delay when saving a new file to a network share

whenever I save to a network share. In this case a folder redirect that has a
large amount of files in it I experience a timed freeze when typing the name
of the new file in the file name text box of the save as dialogue box.
depending on the size of the share it could take up to ten seconds for the
name that I just typed to appear.

I've noticed that when working locally or switching the initial save
location typing the name and then chossing the path works fine. does anyone
have any info on this?

BTW it only happens in OFFICE applications

I assume this is happening because of the process Office applications go
thorough when saving a new file. Maybe a file chack for existing names or
some other scan that causes the app to freeze for a few seconds. The
computers resources don't spike during this freeze so I am sure it is not a
local machine problem.

Also I have never seen any complaints about it. Maybe it has to do with the
specs of the Server? has anyone ever even experienced this freeze phenomenon
when saving to a server share?
