Typing in a cell

Help

How do you get a sentence or paragrapgh you've written to appear at full view
when you've written the whole thing in one cell?

Select the cell in question and the the click FORMAT in the menu and select
CELLS. In the formatting dialog box, click the ALIGNMENT tab. Select the
how you want to horizontally and vertically align the text and then click the
WRAP TEXT check box. Click OK when done.

If the cell you're formatting is a merged cell then this will not word wrap.
In that case you can edit the cell and move to each location where you want
to end the line and press <ALT>+<Enter> to insert a line break. Adjust both
the column width and row height when done.

If you prefer to do neither of the above, then just widen the column

Hope this helps.

Hi,

You may not be able to get it all to display. In 2003 the limit of viewable
and printable characters in a cell is about 1023. In 2007 that has changed.
Strangely you can enter more text in the cell than you can display or print?
To beat those restrictions you can enter your text in a textbox, comment or
autoshape.

A second thing to consider is that you can merge cells to make the text
display more useful on occations.

You can add and Alt + Enter about every 100 characters to increase the 1024
limit in 2003 and earlier.

Merging cells has never done anything for me.

That just creates a larger single cell with the same limitation as any single
cell.

Hi Help,

In either 2003 or 2007 you will be limited to 32,767 characters in a cell
regardless of the version or techniques you use.

Actually Excel 2007 will display far more than 1024 characters in the cell
without pressing Alt+Enter between each 100 characters, in fact it will
display 32,767 characters per cell.

The advantage of using the text box, auto shape or comment is that you don't
need to deal with the Alt Enter issue. In addition these options don't
require you to resize the spreadsheet rows and columns so you can see the
entry.

In addition you can use the Camera tool to shoot the text box or auto shape
and them place a live picture of the object anywhere you want.

The advantage of the Comment is that it will hide when you are not hovering
over it which means that it takes up even less screen space.

For what its worth text boxes and autoshapes can contain more than 32,767
characters, closer to about 40,112. However, it appears that comments don't
allow quite that many characters, jsut 32,767.
