Frontpage is telling me I have a broken link on one of my pages referring to
a file called going_out.htm. What can this be referring to? I feel the
may be significant.

Yes but I can't find any link on that page to the filename referred to (which
isn't a 'real' filename)

If the file published online?
Or if working locally are you running a Disc Based Web or a Server Based web
Also look at View Hyperlinks to see if the link to that file appears there

It is also possible you have some corrupt FP meta data
Clean up using
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
- in FP 2003 you need to look in the super hidden folder
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
3) Reopen the site in FP & run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks
