Unable to Accept an update

Hi all

I am working with Project Server 2003 with Project Professional and the web based client. I has been entering some demo projects and have come across a problem that has be baffled

The problem has occurred twice at this stage, the first time it seemed to resolve itself when I left it overnight but I need to be able to resolve the problem as soon as it occurs or, preferably, prevent it from happening at all. I have published a project with Project professional and assigned resources to work on it without a problem. When team members complete a task the project manager is informed of the update and asked to accept or reject it. Rejecting isn't a problem, neither is accepting most of the time but my problem is that now, when I accept and press update I get the error message

VBScript : Microsoft Office Project web access 200

You need Project Professional 2002 or 2003 to perform this action ..........................................

I don't understand why this is happening, I can test the connection and its fine as well as publish new projects. Does anyone have any ideas about what is causing the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

I had this problem once, it had to do with the Project Spooler not being on. I had Project Pro open, but had elected not to connect to the server. So, when in Web Access, when I hit Update, it gave me the message that I need Project 2003. When I closed Project Pro and hit update, it worked fine.

Thanks for that anonymous

Unfortunalely regardless of whether I have the Project Professional client installed or not I continue to receive the same error. I have tried rebooting the project server 2003 server but to no avail, the error still exists. Is anyone aware of an action or updatate that I could apply to fix this problem. The fact that this has occurred a couple of times for no apparent reason indicates to me that it might well be a bug

Thanks in advance

Just to update you on the problem that I have been having

I have found that when I select 'Collaborate' --> 'Update Project Progress' from the project professional client I connect to the server and am presented with the Web Access Update screen. I am able to carry out the update from there no problem. While this does get me around my problem I am keen to find why it is that the problem is occurring

For anyone that was interested my problem was that I pointed to the server by IP address in Project professional i.e. http://1.2.3.4/projectserver but to access the web access I entered http://localserver/projectserver/... I have an entry in the DNS that maps these together but unless they are the same they can't communicate. A stupid error on my part, one that I hope this thread might help somebody else to avoid

Thanks for your interest
