Unable to access the Microsoft Office Project Portfolio Analyzer OLAPcube

Hi All,

I am fairly new to Project Server administration and I have
encountered issues in accessing Portfolio Analyzer through PWA.

Our setup are as follows:

Project Server 2003 SP2a
MS SQL Server 2000 version 8.00.761
MS SQL Server 200 Analysis Services version 8.0.760.0
WSS 2.0 SP3

Our development environment is a single server setup. I have created
the group OLAP Administrators and added my login id in that group. I
have also manage to build the cube successfully and able to run
Portfolio Analyzer when running PWA on the server. The problem occurs
when I login to a different workstation in the same domain and try to
run Analyze Projects in Portfolio Analyzer. The message I get is:

Unable to access the Microsoft Office Project Portfolio Analyzer
OLAP cube.

The cube may not exist, or you may not have permissions to access
the cube.

I have tried searching the internet for the solution of the problem. I
even tried to setup a new server from scratch to make sure that I did
the installation correctly but I still get the same problem with the
newly setup server. What should I do to make Portfolio Analyzer work
in other workstations different aside from my server? Is there any
installations to be done in the individual workstations?

Thanks in advance.

In AS2000, you need to give explicit permissions to access the cubes. This
is done in Analysis Manager. I expect that this is your issue. From memory
not all of the MS install guides mention this.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I have already setup the necessary permissions in the cubes. I created
a role in our database in AS and added my login id in the newly
created role but still the same result.

Hmm,
Make sure both SQL and AS are on the same Service Pack (at least 3a).

Are you logging on with the same account on the project server as you are on
the workstation?

Hi Ben,

Yes SQL and AS are both updated to SP 3a.

I use my own account both in the server and workstation. That's what
puzzling me. The server and the workstation are both connected in the
same domain but the Portfolio Analyzer only works in the server and
not in the workstation.

thanks and best rgds,

Check your IE settings. Try setting the security for trusted sites to "low",
and making sure that the server is in the trusted site.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for all you responses. I am now able to make our Portfolio
Analyzer work. The problem was the settings that I had in our Ad Hoc
Reporting View. It was pointing to a wrong Analysis Server. This was
caused by the refresh we did from our Production to Development
environment.

rgds,
