unable to activate

i have just installed office 2003 but am unable to activate it. Clicking on
'activate product' in help in any of the programs produces no response
whatsoever. How can i persuade the activation process to kick in?

Is it a trial version? Was there a trial version previously
installed on your computer that has since expired?

No - it's a full version. There was a trial version which has expired and
which I have removed. I note that Article 823527 recommends removing
opa11.dat file from the Office Data folder to resolve this problem, but there
is no such file in that folder. I'd be very grateful for any help as I have
some Word documents that require fairly urgent attention.
