Unable to Change Font Style or Font Size

MS Office 2003-WORD

Bold, underlining, centering, etc, work OK, but I am unable to use
either the Format menu or the Tool Bar to change Font Size or Font
Style.

Any ideas?

Delete characters also seems strange, in that I am not able to
hightlight and use the keyboard's Delete key to delete characters.
Must use Cntrl-X to make a deletion, and that usually takes twice to
do.

This one sounds like you have some extra, invisible characters between
the characters. My first guess is that the document has some stored
changes, using "Track Changes". In my work I hardly ever need to use
this, when I see it it's usually on by mistake. So I would "Accept
all changes" and go on.

I was just now into Excel2003, and font size and style work as
expected in that program.
Don't know.

I will try Track Changes and Accept all changes. TnX for input.
